Tonight's racing: three to watch from Newmarket, Haydock and Tipperary
Arguably some of today's most intriguing racing happens as the evening draws in, with Tipperary (ATR), Newmarket (RUK), Haydock (RUK) and Chelmsford (ATR) all hosting cards. Here are three horses it could pay to watch out for, not just for tonight but in the future
Kingman is proving a very striking first-season sire having produced the likes of Calyx, Look Around and King Of Comedy, and John Gosden releases another impeccably bred colt in the shape of Albert Finney, who is out of Oaks fourth and Group 2 winner Gertrude Bell. This maiden has been won by the likes of Vintager (2017) and Emotionless (2015) in recent years, and Albert Finney also boasts a Champagne Stakes entry.
You've guessed it, Beatboxer is another John Gosden inmate with a Champagne Stakes entry. Unlike Albert Finney, Beatboxer has already showcased his talent when winning impressively at Sandown and the Scat Daddy colt looks a hot property. A $650,000 purchase, he has to defy a penalty, but Frankie Dettori is aboard and you'd have to think this will be a stepping stone to greater things.
Last year's St Leger winner Capri took this Listed race as a juvenile back in 2016, and although this year's renewal doesn't look a stand-out contest, Chicago May has the most eyecatching profile. She won on her only start at Naas, and even though she was 25-1, she travelled best and scored with ease. She has been purchased by Newtown Anner Stud since and could well be up to this level.
