Tonight's racing: three runners who catch the eye across the meetings
Three fixtures this evening offer a little bit of everything. There is jump racing from Ballinrobe, an all-weather card at Chelmsford and a Flat meeting from Nottingham to keep us entertained. Here are three runners worth keeping an eye on
Blick Des Obeaux
He does not train many horses, but trainer Pat Kelly has some serious ammunition in his stable, headed by RSA Chase winner andMagners Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite Presenting Percy.
Owned by Kelly’s main patron Philip Reynolds, Blick Des Obeaux has not run for over four years, albeit that was a winning run on the Flat in France.
With leading jockey Jack Kennedy in the saddle for tonight’s return, it will be interesting to see if this is another star from Kelly’s unheralded yard.
Kieran Shoemark, who is recovering after sustaining horrendous injuries in a fall at Lingfield, rode a superb race to win on this filly at Thirsk two starts ago.
She was expected to follow up that win at Beverley last time, but failed to fire, finishing fourth of five with one of tonight’s rivals, Kalagia, in front of her.
There is a nice pull in the weights in Bedwyyah’s favour this time around and the form of the race at Beverley is strong. That little bit more experience, and a more conventional track, might help her turn the tables.
By champion sprinter Oasis Dream, out of a mare by sprinter Pivotal and half-brother to two 6f winners, it seemed far from obvious Sanam was going to excel over staying trips.
However, it has proved a master stroke by trainer Ed Dunlop with Sanam winning three from three since stepping up to 1m4f and beyond, with his most recent win a cosy success over 1m6f.
That came at Chelmsford, and Sanam returns to the course this evening for a 2m contest from a 7lb higher mark. Despite that, there seems to be little reason to think he cannot strike again in this class 6 event.
