Hannon eyes another sales race strike after Mums Tipple romp

After a sensational 11-length victory with Mums Tipple last month, Richard Hannon returns to Yorkshire for another crack at a valuable sales race.

Mums Tipple's romp at York's Ebor meeting last month will live long in the memory and while it is asking a lot for something similar from the Hannon team, the trainer has been impressed by Manigordo and believes the colt could prove the pick of his three runners.

"I really like Manigordo and think he has an awful amount of ability," the trainer said. "He was unlucky not to win at Ascot last time and I'm very hopeful he can go extremely close."

Of his other pair, Hannon said: "Ziggle Pops finally got the job done at Brighton last time and did it in good style too. A race of this nature will really suit him and he has solid each-way claims.

"D Day was an impressive winner at Newbury two starts ago and then lost his race at the start. He’ll be much sharper now and any give in the ground will aid his cause."

Richard Fahey has been the trainer to follow in this race following wins with Mr Lupton (2015), Bond’s Girl (2014) and Wootton Bassett (2010).

He is double-handed this time with National League, fifth behind Mums Tipple at York, and Toro Strike, who was third in a nursery at Glorious Goodwood last time.

"They'll both need to step up on what they have shown to be competitive, it looks like a good contest," said Fahey.

"If you took Mums Tipple out of the last race then National League had run really well, he has run okay all season but he will need to find a lot more.

"We were pleased with Toro Strike at Goodwood last time, he has been improving throughout the season but I'm not sure whether the trip will suit him."

Kevin Ryan, trainer of Byline, Repartee and Soaring Star
They're all in great form going into it. Repartee has the best form [of the three] in the book. Byline would appreciate a bit of rain, but that doesn't seem to be in the forecast. Soaring Star has run two solid races but is going to need a bit of improvement.

Ralph Beckett, trainer of Great Ambassador
His form is pretty strong and I think he can be competitive. The drop back by half a furlong wouldn't worry me too much as he shows plenty of boot. We're looking forward to it.

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Harpocrates, King Neptune and Pistoletto
Harpocrates ran very well when second in the Acomb and is in good form. We think Pistoletto has come forward since his run in the Gimcrack while the trip and the ground should be fine for King Neptune.

Mick Channon, trainer of Indian Creak
He's in good form. There are a few in there with a higher rating but I think he will be competitive. The trip will be fine for him, I think he would have won if he was running at this trip the last time he ran.

Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Unforgetable
She ran well when second in the Silver Flash at Leopardstown last time and is in good shape. We're hoping for another good run

Karl Burke, trainer of Rayong
He would be unlikely to run if there is firm in the going but he's in decent form and if he gets good ground or slower he would go there with a chance. He’s favoured by these race conditions.
