Can Nyaleti get back on track?

Nyaleti bids to revive her 1,000 Guineas challenge in this fillies' feature in which she tackles the unknown territory of a mile.

Indeed, Mark Johnston's filly has run only once beyond six furlongs and that ended in defeat against September in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, but she is bred to get the trip on her dam's side at least.

The daughter of Arch was not stopping when running out an impressive five-length winner over the useful Dance Diva in a Group 3 at Ascot on her penultimate start when she appeared to relish some give underfoot.

After that, Nyaleti was disappointing when upped in class to tackle the colts in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville, finishing sixth of eight, but may have had excuses.

James Doyle, who rode her that day, keeps the ride and said: "The ground had dried right out at Deauville and Nyaleti didn't really let herself down on it in the closing stages. It was on the soft side when she won so impressively at Ascot so hopefully the ease in the ground will help her. She's at the head of the market for the race and deservedly so."

Will Hannon pair keep improving?

Richard Hannon is double-handed in a bid to win this prize for the first time with the progressive pair Billesdon Brook and Tajaanus, who are just 2lb apart on BHA ratings.

Although she has turned into something of a seven-furlong Goodwood specialist, Billesdon Brook is bred to see out this longer trip and had the reopposing Miss Bar Beach back in third when landing the Group 3 Supreme Stakes at the Sussex track last time.

She is on a hat-trick, as is Tajaanus, who is less certain to stay but was not stopping when making all over seven furlongs last time to land the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket.

Her jockey Jim Crowley said: "She's an improving filly who's progressing with every run. She won't mind any ease in the ground and has a nice chance."

Is Burke primed for more juvenile joy?

Karl Burke can do no wrong with his two-year-old colts this year but his fillies are not bad either, including Laurens who is the least experienced in the field having had just two outings.

After winning her maiden on her debut at this venue in July, the French-bred was quickly sent to Deauville where she finished runner-up in the Group 3 Prix du Calvados.

Burke said: "Laurens is a very nice type who ran well in France and should handle some ease in the ground, although she's a good-actioned filly. We're excited about her chances."

Will course form prove key for Angel?

Simon Crisford's runners at this level are usually competitive and Dark Rose Angel has an advantage over her rivals as she's a previous course-and-distance winner.

The daughter of Dark Angel was most impressive when scoring by four lengths that day under Paul Mulrennan, who is aboard again, and the third has won since.

Crisford said: "Dark Rose Angel is very well and and we know she likes the track and the trip. It was good ground that day and we just hope the soft doesn't count against her."

Is O'Brien sending over a sizzler?

Aidan O'Brien has never won the May Hill but has not had many runners in it either and gives Sizzling her first crack at black type.

The daughter of Galileo has been in Britain before, finishing second in a maiden at Newmarket in July, and got off the mark at the fifth time of asking at Tipperary last time.

O'Brien said: "It took her a while to get off the mark but she won nicely at Tipperary and that will hopefully have given her confidence. We think that step up to a mile will definitely suit her so we're hopeful of a good run."
