Malcolm Jefferson is honoured at Kelso today as the race formerly known as the Ivan Straker Memorial Chase takes on the name of one of the North's most well-regarded trainers, who died this time last year.

The race has attracted just two runners, but one of them is Definitly Red. He has won the Charlie Hall and Many Clouds Chase this season and uses this race as a final step to the Cheltenham Gold Cup, for which he is a best-priced 33-1.

The previous race on the Kelso card is the Morebattle Hurdle (2.25), which has attracted its usual small field, four this time. Nicky Henderson has trained two of the last seven winners and he runs last year's Grade 1-winning juvenile We Have A Dream in an attempt to strengthen a solid race record. Although Henderson's record in the race is most closely associated with Zaynar's defeat at odds of 1-14 in 2010.

Afternoon action also comes from Leicester and Fontwell in Britain, and Clonmel in Ireland where a Grade 3 novice hurdle takes centre stage at 2.40. Five of the nine declared runners have Cheltenham entries.

The all-weather meeting at Chelmsford takes us through the evening, starting at 4.45.
