Three horses to note at Dundalk and Newcastle this evening
Two all-weather fixtures take place this evening at Dundalk and Newcastle. Both meetings are being shown on At The Races, with Dundalk (5.30) kicking off the action before Newcastle's opening race (5.45).
Bridport
6.30 Dundalk
On Tuesday, they combined to win the Melbourne Cup at Flemington. Tonight, trainer Joseph O’Brien and owner Lloyd Williams are seeking success in a 1m maiden at Dundalk.
Like Melbourne Cup hero Rekindling, Bridport is by High Chaparral and possesses a classy pedigree, albeit one that perhaps does not look to have the same emphasis on stamina.
Bridport holds an entry in next year’s Investec Derby and his progress is sure to be monitored closely over the months ahead.
Waarif
7.15 Newcastle
It is no secret that trainer David O’Meara has established a justified reputation of being able to improve or rejuvenate horses he receives from other stables.
One such horse is Waarif, who makes his second start for O’Meara and owners Middleham Park Racing at Newcastle tonight after finishing runner-up on his first start last month.
With the All-Weather Championships underway, connections will be thinking about some nice prizes ahead if the four-year-old can get his head in front this evening.
Lady Of The Lamp
9.15 Newcastle
There will be few jockeys busier than Luke Morris this winter, and the prospect of riding in the last race at Newcastle will not be as bad for the Newmarket-based rider if they all have as good a prospects as Lady Of The Lamp.
The three-year-old has won her last two starts, both at Newcastle, and she is 5lb well-in as she does not carry a penalty for her success in an apprentice handicap last week.
As a half-sister to the classy Duntle among others, Morris and trainer Rae Guest will be hoping there are plenty more victories to come from this Invincible Spirit filly.
