Three horses to look out for this evening
After a busy afternoon, there are a pair of seven-race Flat cards this evening at Hamilton (5.55 start, RUK) and Kempton (6.10 start, RUK). Here we pick out three horses it could pay to follow.
Silvanus (7.25 Hamilton)
The admirable 12-year-old makes his 123rd start in the feature 5f handicap when he attempts to give weight to his nine younger rivals.
Despite his advancing years, Silvanus has shown he is no back number by finishing runner-up on his last three starts, most recently splitting a pair of subsequent winners off only 1lb lower at Pontefract 19 days ago.
Paul Midgley has a great knack of keeping his experienced sprinters sweet and there would be no more popular winner should the veteran register a 17th success this evening.
Dandy Highwayman (8.25 Hamilton)
The Ollie Pears-trained three-year-old was a close second off this mark at Ripon last time and should be capable of making amends.
A consistent juvenile last year, Dandy Highwayman, who was gelded over the winter, won a competitive handicap at Ripon on his seasonal comeback and the form of that race has been boosted since.
In between his Ripon runs he finished third of five over course and distance, but that was in a more competitive contest and he has also shown he acts on tonight's good to soft ground.
North Creek (8.40 Kempton)
After two solid runs so far this season, the Chris Wall-trained four-year-old looks primed to build on his recent appearances in the 7f handicap.
Returning to a distance both his wins have come over, North Creek is on a handy mark dropped into a 0-80 contest and has shown his liking for Kempton with a second and a third in four starts at the track.
The booking of James Doyle is interesting as the jockey has a 33 per cent strike-rate when riding for Chris Wall in the last two seasons.
