The Saturday Briefing: key betting news, latest going and non-runners

Galileo Gold (second, left) and Ribchester (right, third) go down to The Gurkha in the Sussex Stakes
1 of 1

After a week that featured Classic trialists it is the turn of last year's crop of Classic graduates today at Newbury where 2016 2,000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold makes his first start of the year in the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes.

In a continuation of last summer's narrative Galileo Gold is faced by old foe Ribchester in Britain's first older horse Group 1 of the campaign with the score between the two level.

Galileo Gold had Ribchester in third when winning the 2,000 Guineas and the pair were second and third in the Sussex Stakes. But in their next two meetings Galileo Gold was only eighth in the Prix Jacques Le Marois won by Ribchester then in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes the Godolphin horse was second and Al Shaqab's Galileo Gold fifth.

The day starts with another clash involving last year's Eclipse Stakes winner Hawkbill and My Dream Boat, winner of the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
