The Punt Daily: Tom Collins's free horse racing tips on Thursday

BIG-RACE BANKER

Masar(3.35 Newmarket)

Although he will go off a short-priced favourite for the Princess Of Wales's Stakes, it would take a brave man to go against Charlie Appleby's colt in the Group 2 contest. Last year's Derby winner has only run once this campaign when fifth in the Hardwicke, but had plenty of excuses that day (slow start, bad stumble in the first ten yards) and has to be forgiven for what could be considered a below-par effort. He's still open to improvement over this trip given this will be just his third try at 1m4f and he should be able to outclass his rivals with relative ease.

GOOD THING

Tipperary Jack (2.45 Doncaster)

This is a pretty decent novice event and that should mean John Best's promising Tipperary Jack goes off a respectable price in a bid to follow up his ready Kempton score. Despite being keen in the early part of the race on his first attempt over 7f, Tipperary Jack really found for pressure close to home against the unfavoured rail and eventually drew a length and three-quarters clear of a subsequent handicap runner-up (off 86). That rates pretty strong form and although he has to give away weight to the majority of his rivals, he looks a good bet under Kieren Fox now dropping back in trip.

EACH-WAY PLAY

Nayef Road(1.50 Newmarket)

The Bahrain Trophy looks a perfect race for each-way punters with plenty of value knocking about in the nine-strong field, and Nayef Road looks good value to go close. Mark Johnston's three-year-old is more exposed than most, but is 2-4 at Newmarket (both tracks) and won on the July course by a commanding margin last August. Following a ready victory on his return to action this season, Nayef Road ran a respectable race to take sixth in the Dante before the contours of Epsom proved unfavourable on his penultimate outing. He bounced back to form with a fine effort in the Queen's Vase last time and that form suggests there's little between him and Barbados, who is a much shorter price.

DARK HORSE

Magical Wish (3.00 Newmarket)

It looks as though Richard Hannon has targeted this race for Magical Wish, who is 6lb well-in as he is able to race off his previous mark before being put up in the weights for a recent runner-up effort at Sandown. He drew clear with market rival Make A Wish on that occasion, a smart prospect, and providing he handles the quick turnaround, he has to go close off this mark. His previous efforts at York, when sixth and third in good handicaps, prove that he is on the up this campaign and I expect him to rattle home now dropped in distance.
