The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free racing tips for day two of Glorious Goodwood
EACH-WAY PLAY
Lord Glitters(3.35 Goodwood)
On ratings the three-year-olds in the Sussex Stakes should have the race between them, but there are plenty of doubts about Too Darn Hot, Circus Maximus and Phoenix Of Spain and there doesn't look to be a better value bet on the day than Lord Glitters, who looks a banker to finish in the frame at a reasonable price. There will be plenty of pace in this mile contest which will suit Lord Glitters, who was last seen recording his first Group 1 victory in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot. His typical last-to-first running style was perfectly executed by Danny Tudhope that day and I hope for much of the same this time around. He was an unlucky third in this race last year and yesterday's rain is another plus.
DARK HORSE
Orlaith (4.10 Goodwood)
Another horse with plenty to find on figures at the weights is Orlaith, who is rated a full 15lb lower than market leader Flippa The Stripper in the conditions event and only receives 3lb. On that alone you would say she has no chance whatsoever, but I was really taken with the way she hit the line over this trip at Ripon last time and I think this race may pan out the same way. It's not easy for young horses to win at Ripon, but she handled the undulations and downhill nature of the sprint course well, which stands her in good stead here, and has improved for each of her four starts. Her draw in stall one (in the middle of the course) is an advantage given how dead the stands' side rail looked yesterday.
