The peoples' champ: Tiger Roll again voted Racing Post Jumps Horse of the Year
Tiger Roll has been voted the 2018-19 Racing Post Jumps Horse of the Year with the dual Grand National winner once again capturing the imagination of the racing public.
Having also earned the prize last year, Tiger Roll received more than half the votes cast by Racing Post readers this year as he galloped to a runaway victory from his four rivals.
The diminutive nine-year-old became the first horse to emulate the legendary Red Rum by capturing back-to-back runnings of the biggest race in the jumps calendar at Aintree this month, and could be in line for a third attempt at the race next season.
Tiger Roll had already earned himself a vaunted reputation with punters and fans when running out an outstanding winner of the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last month, his second success in that race and his fourth overall at the meeting.
While Tiger Roll took top honours in the public vote, it was a couple of the other stars of the Cheltenham Festival who took second and third after providing two of the fairytale stories of the season.
Stayers’ Hurdle winner Paisley Park took second place with Ryanair Chase scorer Frodon third. The pair were two of the pillars of a memorable third day of the Cheltenham Festival along with the jubilant Andrew Gemmell, owner of Paisley Park, and the irrepressible Bryony Frost, rider of Frodon.
The vote was completed by the two highest rated horses in training, Altior and Cyrname, whose brilliance was surpassed by three horses with special stories to tell.
Racing Post Jumps Horse of the Year: where the votes went
Tiger Roll: 733
Paisley Park: 261
Frodon: 203
Altior: 121
Cyrname: 37
(Total votes: 1,355)
