The Godolphin facility that is giving Charlie Appleby a 'significant edge'

Charlie Appleby said on Tuesday his team of juveniles were enjoying a 'significant edge' over their Newmarket rivals as they had the advantage of being able to mix training on private turf and all-weather gallops as his rivals are constrained by the long dry spell.

Appleby's private training centre at Moulton Paddocks close to Newmarket covers 1,200 acres and includes its own reservoir that Godolphin have licence to fill through the winter from the River Kennett that flows through the neighbouring village of Moulton.

The extensive facilities include an uphill six-furlong grass gallop that can be watered as well as a number of Polytrack gallops and canters that run either side of the pristine turf.
