'You can't leave out Pinatubo' - Malcolm Tomlinson gives his ten to follow

The commentator and former competition winner has spotted potential scorers

Enable landed the 13th and most recent success of her incredible career in the Juddmonte International at York in August for Frankie Dettori and she tops Rod Street's hopes for the season ahead

While it pays to have a list with a speculative choice or two (Red Marauder would certainly have been in that category when I was lucky enough to win the jumps competition in 2001), you need a solid framework of horses in your list on which to build.

So I've gone for a few obvious ones, including Pinatubo. You can't leave out last season's top-rated juvenile as, although the 2,000 Guineas is not part of the competition, he's sure to be a major force in the top mile races for the remainder of the season.

Do we need a reason to include Enable? She's to be watched and enjoyed for as long as we have her gracing the racecourse and she'll run in the big bonus races.

For me Battaash is the best sprinter in the land at present, while there may still be some improvement to come from Kew Gardens in the big staying races, although obviously it's a huge call leaving Stradivarius out.

Highest Ground has a real chance in the Derby. I wouldn't normally be rushing to include horses who have won only a Leicester maiden. But having missed the break he still won hard held and beat a couple of useful sorts in the process.

Peaceful was beaten narrowly in a Listed event at Newmarket over a mile. She will be pounds better over a trip and is a likely sort for the Irish Oaks.

Japanis going to be one of the flagbearers in the top races open to older horses for Aidan O'Brien this year and could be hard to beat.

I liked Frankly Darling's performance at Newcastle the other day. She could well score plenty of points in the top fillies' events.

Raabihah, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget in France, was the eyecatching winner of a Listed race at Longchamp in May and could well be a top-class performer by the end of the season. I think the Arc will certainly be in the trainer's thoughts.

I've liked Wells Farhh Goever since calling him home at York as a youngster. He's not quite lived up to expectations yet – indeed, last year you'd have to say he was disappointing. However, if Tim Easterby can get him back on track he could well be a big player in the Ebor, which is a bonus race.
