Get off to a flying start with Battaash - Rod Street selects his Ten To Follow
The chief executive of British Champions Series wants crowd-pleasers on his side
I'll confess that as chief executive of British Champions Series this might sound like more of a wishlist than a guide to horses to follow but the series is all about different disciplines and distances and so is the Tote Ten To Follow.
The top-class action is going to come fast and furious in the next few weeks and Battaash embodies that spirit of sprinting headlong out of the gates. When he puts it all together he's virtually unbeatable and really gets fans out of their seats.
You can't have a wishlist without Enable. She's racing's all-star and if the season goes her way she could be one of the most famous horses ever. We should cherish every time we see her.
Japan looks like being Ballydoyle's top older colt and is sure to turn up for all the middle-distance showdowns, while Siskin is another Irish raider likely to feature across the summer.
Of the milers, lightly raced King Of Change showed what he was made of in the QEII and has more to show.
As for stayers, it's Stradivarius – well, why wouldn't you? He's been virtually unbeatable and a huge crowd-pleaser across three seasons. It's easy to see him putting together another sequence.
From the three-year-olds you can't leave out last year's highest-rated juvenile Pinatubo. He could be sensational, while the Frankel filly Quadrilateral is expected to progress.
Kameko was impressive over a mile in the Vertem Futurity and will be a force over further, while Highest Ground made a smart winning debut and is in the hands of a master in Sir Michael Stoute.
We're in the business of promoting the best and if some of these selections fire as we hope then there will be some thrilling horses to talk about and we know racing will be thriving.
