The GMB union has reached agreement with Windsor racecourse to reinstate full access to the grounds for taxi and private-hire drivers.

Union representatives said that following reports of rogue cab drivers charging excessively for journeys instead of using a meter, the racecourse had granted an exclusive contract to a local private-hire service and restricted access for all other drivers.

This decision has been reversed after GMB representatives advised the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead of the issues with licensing and warned that drivers would have to drop the public at the racecourse entrance, forcing racegoers to walk the last half-mile into the track.
