Tattersall awaits Olympics verdict with Arctic Soul

Gemma Tattersall should find out on Tuesday whether she and former racehorse Arctic Soul will be representing Britain at the Olympics in Rio.

Arctic Soul, who started his career in training with Colm Murphy in Ireland, secured a spot on the longlist after a third-placed finish with Tattersall at the Badminton Horse Trials, where the pair won the Retraining of Racehorse-sponsored prize for best performance by a former racehorse.

Whether the pair are named among the four-strong eventing team or not – the announcement is expected on Tuesday – just making the longlist is a big achievement, while the same goes for Summon Up Theblood, who was previously trained by Mick Channon and ran up a hat-trick at Windsor, Thirsk and Ayr in 2008, and is in the running to represent Brazil with rider Carlos Parro.
