Talking points and eyecatchers emerging from Friday's evening fixture

Kevin Ryan: reached 1,500 winners on Friday night
1 of 1

Nottingham hosts its biggest meeting of the season on Saturday - it's Ladies Day, with the feature being the £40,000 Listed Kilvington Stakes, with German-based trainer Dominik Moser bidding to follow up his 33-1 success 12 months ago - and it was preceded by an evening fixture that produced some eyecatching stories and winners

Notable landmark for Kevin Ryan
Kevin Ryan notched his 1,500th winner in Britain when Dame Gladys captured the 5f two-year-old fillies’ stakes.

Ryan, 51, took out a licence to train in the summer of 1998 and has since claimed top-level honours with the likes of Amadeus Wolf, Palace Episode, Desert Lord, The Grey Gatsby, Brando and Astaire.

With the York Dante meeting taking place next week, Ryan is sure to have a strong team out as he bids to make a good dent in the next 1,500 winners.

Muk off the mark
The victory of Dame Gladys was notable for more than one reason as she also provided her sire Mukhadram with a first winner as a stallion.

Mukhadram was unraced at two but progressed significantly at three and beyond to win the Coral-Eclipse and finish second in the Dubai World Cup for trainer William Haggas and owner Hamdan Al Maktoum.

Dame Gladys scored over five furlongs, while several Mukhadrams hold entries in sprinting contests. They look as though they may prove to be more precocious than their father.

Turf Iss what she wants
Isstoora had disappointed since winning on her debut for Archie Watson but turned in a superb performance to win the 1m½f fillies’ handicap.

The filly comes from an excellent family (that of Dansili et al) and seemed to have stalled on the all-weather on a mark in the mid-60s.

Switched to good to firm turf, and sporting blinkers, Isstoora was always going to win and burst clear in the closing stages to score by five lengths. It could have been much more and, despite the inevitable weight rise, she is worth noting on decent ground in the next month.
