Upwardly mobile: Advertise gives Meade another big-race win from new base

Moving house is generally regarded as a stressful exercise, but for Martyn Meade the process appears to have been seamless.

In March the trainer moved his whole operation from Sefton Lodge in Newmarket to the historic Manton estate in Wiltshire, and the horses have acclimatised instantly, with Advertise his latest big-race winner in the Group 2 July Stakes.

Runner-up to Calyx in the Coventry Stakes, Advertise was sent off at 11-10 to uphold the Royal Ascot form, and he did so comfortably under Frankie Dettori with a smooth two-length success.

Approaching the Dip it was obvious Dettori was on the best horse and the pair quickened away nicely, leaving Meade to contemplate loftier targets.

Cutting a relaxed figure in the sunkissed winner's enclosure, Meade said: "The way he did it was fantastic. Frankie gave him a great ride and gave him time to get into his stride – he's a big two-year-old.

"He co-operates with you all the time and he put it to bed pretty convincingly. He's a straightforward horse and hopefully we'll be able to step up in distance. We were tossing up whether to go for the Superlative Stakes on Saturday as I think he would benefit from an extra furlong and we've got some options now."

The Dewhurst was mentioned as a target for later in the year, and beyond that next season's 2,000 Guineas appears a realistic destination.

When asked whether the son of Showcasing could be a Classic contender, Meade replied in the affirmative.

"We'll look forward to his three-year-old career, I think he should be [a Guineas horse]. Certainly at this stage it's an option."

Ladbrokes left Advertise unchanged at 12-1 for the Guineas, while he was cut to 14-1 (from 20) for the race by Paddy Power.

Having partnered Calyx at Royal Ascot, Dettori – who was winning the race for a fifth time – is well placed to size up the respective colts, and was impressed by Advertise.

"He quickened really well and has a good mind to him. He won cosily," Dettori said. "I said to Martyn he's not slow and he could stick to six but he switches off and I wouldn't be scared at all by seven furlongs."

Konchek, who was trying the trip for the first time, and improved for the extra furlong, finished runner-up.

Trainer Clive Cox said: "I'm delighted with him and he’s really going the right way. The winner had the best form coming into the race and it looked a hot race too, so I’m thrilled he’s run so well. He was happy going the extra furlong and he keeps on improving."
