Super League comes to Haydock with more dash than crash

1 of 1

Mascot races have become part of the entertainment at meetings around Britain, but at Haydock this evening there is a neat twist, as eight mascots from the Betfred Super League prepare to do battle.

While not quite a full quota, with 12 clubs in the Super League, the mascots who are due to take each other on should provide plenty of entertainment, with the furlong dash scheduled for before racing starts.

The race is part of a Super League at the races-themed evening, and if you think it is a bit of fun, think again.

Those wishing to get a closer look at the participants will be able to do so, as the mascots will parade before their race, with a best turned out award on offer.

Anyone having difficulty distinguishing Ronnie The Rhino from Kemik The Viking will be able to check the racecard, and full betting will be available.

Haydock's general manager Jason Fildes said: "It's great to bring two major sports in the north-west together. We have always wanted to host a rugby at the races evening."
