Willie Mullins has high hopes Killultagh Vic can get back to winning ways

Willie Mullins believes this Grade 3 contest presents Killultagh Vic with a big chance of achieving a first win over fences in more than three years.

It would, indeed, be a first success of any kind since he scored over hurdles at Punchestown in December 2017.

The ten-year-old last won a chase at Leopardstown in January 2016, when he and Ruby Walsh made an amazing recovery from a dreadful last-fence blunder to land a Grade 2 event.

At Cork on Sunday, Danny Mullins has his first spin on Killultagh Vic who has run over fences only once this season, when trailing in last of four in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park in February.

Mullins said of the former Grade 1 winner: "Killultagh Vic's rating means he's very well in at the weights and it looks a nice opportunity for him to try to resume winning ways after a frustrating period."

Five-time chase winner Ball D'Arc, who will be running over three miles for the first time since 2015, is rated 7lb inferior to Killultagh Vic on official figures and has to concede 6lb to the Mullins runner.

His trainer Gordon Elliott said: "It's been a long time since Ball D'Arc has won and, while he seems in good form, he's facing a big task at the weights."

The six-runner line-up also includes Call It Magic, who unseated his rider at the Canal Turn in the Topham Chase on his most recent start, and Westerner Point, winner of handicaps at Limerick and Wexford on his last two starts.

For those looking for an historical marker, this contest has been run at Cork as the Imperial Call Chase since 2004, in honour of the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner.

Racecourse manager Andrew Hogan said the race title had been changed to the Betway Chase at the sponsor's request. In racecards, he added, it will state 'registered as the Imperial Call Chase'.
