Why is it interesting?

The Richard Hannon-trained topweight Chatham House is a progressive three-year-old who followed up a seven-furlong win at Newbury with a narrow defeat in Newmarket's Grey Horse Handicap two weekends ago and faces a select field of in-form sprinters here.

However, he has never raced at Brighton, which is very much a 'horses for courses' sort of track, and he is up against three course winners and another rival, Red Alert, who was only just touched off in the Brighton Bullet two starts ago.

What do the stats say?

Three of the six runners are three-year-olds and no runner of that age has finished closer than fourth in six runnings of this race. Only five have tried, however.

Tony Carroll, who saddles Red Alert, and William Muir, who is responsible for Cent Flying, are both previous winning trainers of the race, which has only once been won by the favourite.

What do the trainers say?

Sean Levey, rider of Chatham House
He's going the right way and got his head in front over seven furlongs when he settled well for the first time. We thought dropping back to six might be the way to go for him still and he proved that was right when he ran a great race in the greys' handicap at Newmarket, when he was only beaten by the bottom weight racing on the other side of the track. Brighton should suit him fine.

Tony Carroll, trainer of Red Alert
I think the track probably caught him out at Chepstow last time as he never got in the race and the front two had it to themselves. There was nothing wrong with him but it just never happened for him. I'd be quite keen on his chance as he's a solid horse and he'd run a super race in the Brighton Bullet the time before.

Stuart Williams, trainer of Enthaar
He won at Brighton two races ago and I think last time the race just wasn't run to suit. Jason Watson gets on well with him, but I can't see a lot of pace, so that's the worry.

William Muir, trainer of Cent Flying
He's been in great shape ever since we cauterised his palate. That's transformed him as he can breathe properly now. He's won twice at Brighton and he likes the ground so there are no negatives.

What do our tipsters say?

All six runners have something to recommend them but Chatham House has been running with great credit of late and he may be up to defying top weight. Previous C&D winners Alicia Darcy and the flourishing Cent Flying look best of the rest. Paul Smith
