Four things to watch out for on a day of quality action at Naas

A thrilling finish to the Fred Darling sees Dandhu (Gerald Mosse) get the better of So Perfect (right) and Iconic Choice (hidden)

So Perfect set sprinting assignment

Caravaggio whizzed to glory in the Goffs Lacken Stakes (4.25) in 2017 on the way to claiming the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and So Perfect leads the Ballydoyle battalion into battle this time as Aidan O'Brien bids to win the Group 3 for the third year on the trot and a fourth time in six years.

Due Diligence (2014) and Sioux Nation (2018), like Caravaggio, possessed blistering speed, and O'Brien obviously believes sprinting is the way forward for So Perfect, who tried 7f at Newbury last month in the Fred Darling and was beaten two short heads into third.

"We tried So Perfect over seven furlongs and, although she ran very well and finished a close third, we decided to drop her back in trip. She's in good form," said O'Brien of the three-year-old filly.

O'Brien has solid back-up if So Perfect fails to fire, as the 103-rated, The Irish Rover and Western Frontier complete his challenge.

O'Brien said: "The Irish Rover is a good, solid horse and the trip suits him well. Western Frontier is dropping back in trip after running over seven furlongs last time and seems in good form."

The Irish Rover could not repel the late surge of Inverleigh at Navan three weeks ago and the improving Ger Lyons-trained colt would once again appear the main danger to the Ballydoyle team.

Another successful Irish ad-Venture for Midgley?

Paul Midgley's sojourns across the Irish Sea are certainly not for the scenery, as the North Yorkshire-based trainer has sent over five winners in Ireland over the last five years, and he will fancy his chances of striking again away from home with the ultra-consistent seven-year-old Final Venture in the Listed Sole Power Sprint Stakes (3.15).

Midgley said: "I thought his Musselburgh run was excellent, especially since it was on a track that wouldn't really play to his strengths and he had to give away lumps of weight to the winner. Naas should be exactly what he needs, a stiff five furlongs is right up his street. Travelling doesn't bother him as he is very laid back. I would be afraid of Gossamer Wings, though."

As a three-year-old filly, Gossamer Wings gets 13lb from Final Venture and Aidan O'Brien wants her to arrive as late as possible.

"Gossamer Wings has been in good form since her first run of the season at Cork. We think she has come forward and she's a filly who likes to be played late. All The Kings Men and Fantasy have plenty of early pace," O'Brien said.

Rivalry renewed in juvenile gem

The roll of honour for the Group 3 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies' Sprint Stakes (3.50) is an illustrious list with Alpha Centauri (2017), Sky Lantern (2012) and Lillie Langtry (2009) the standout winners in the last decade and this year's renewal looks well up to scratch.

Peace Charter and the Aidan O'Brien-trained So Wonderful renew rivalry following a thrilling tussle in a maiden over course and distance last month.

On that occasion, Peace Charter swooped late to score by half a length with a yawning gap back to the third. They look two hugely promising juveniles and whoever comes out on top this time is likely to be Royal Ascot-bound.

"I'm delighted with her and you'd like to think there is plenty of improvement. I'd say she'll learn plenty from that. Going forward we always thought she was a seven-furlong plus filly," said trainer Ger Lyons after Peace Charter's impressive debut win.

O'Brien is hoping for an improved showing from So Wonderful too. He said: "So Wonderful ran well when second on her debut over the course and distance and we've been happy with her since. Etoile is a sister of Most Gifted and is just ready to start off."

The Fior fairytale continues

The latest chapter of the Annie Fior fairytale will be penned in the Listed Owenstown Stud Stakes (2.40) as the five-year-old filly seeks her fourth win in six weeks.

Rated just 59 when winning a Leopardstown handicap in early April, Annie Fior now finds herself with a mark of 87 following two more handicap wins, both at Gowran Park.

She has been one of the success stories of the Irish Flat season so far for trainer Barry Murphy and victory here would sugarcoat a stunning spring under former champion jockey Colin Keane.

Texas Rock, winner of the race two years ago at 16-1, is among her seven rivals in what looks a wide-open race.
