Top-quality Flat racing in Ireland and France headlines a busy day of action, and it is Classics time at the new-look Longchamp with the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (2.35) for the colts, while the female equivalent is the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (3.15).

US Navy Flag heads the British and Irish challenge in the Poulains, with the unbeaten Wootton the one to beat for Godolphin and Henri-Alex Pantall.

It could be a good afternoon for Godolphin, as they also own the Pouliches favourite, Musis Amica. Marco Botti, David Simcock and Karl Burke represent British hopes.

At Leopardstown there is the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial (3.40), and with Aidan O'Brien saddling The Pentagon, Delano Roosevelt and Nelson there could be Classic clues aplenty with the Irish 1,000 Guineas trial (3.10) also on the card.

If jump racing is your thing then fear not, as there is action at Killarney, Ludlow, Plumpton and Southwell.

The Formula One carnival moves on to Spain, and Phil Agius believes it could be a good race for Red Bull ace Daniel Ricciardio.

Final thought

If Aidan O'Brien dominates Leopardstown's Derby Trial in the manner the betting suggests, then come the close of play on Sunday it might be difficult to make a case for the Investec Derby trophy heading anywhere other than his Ballydoyle base.
