Sudden downpour eases Doncaster going prior to St Leger card on Saturday
An intense Friday afternoon shower means the going is likely to be on the easier side of good for the Cazoo St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday.
The going was changed to good, good to soft in places (from good to firm, good in places) shortly after Stradivarius had triumphed in the Doncaster Cup, with clerk of the course Roderick Duncan warning more rain could arrive before the final Classic of the season.
He said: "We had 4.6mm of rain in 15 minutes between the fourth and fifth race.
"There is the risk of further showers early this evening, then it is forecast to stay dry through to the end of racing tomorrow."
There is a drier forecast at Leopardstown for the first day of Longines Irish Champions Weekend, with the ground described as good.
Clerk of the course Lorcan Wyer said: "We did a little bit of selective watering on Thursday when the rainfall amount didn't actually register but it was one of those dampish, misty days.
"In effect, the track has regained the moisture that it may have lost during the hot spell on Monday and Tuesday. The forecast is generally dry."
Conditions at the Curragh, where racing takes place on Sunday, were good on the straight course and good, good to firm in places on the round track.
"There's a possibility of showers and we'll see where we go with it, but we're in a good place," clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan said. "The stalls will be in the centre for all sprints and we're racing on the stand side."
