Start spreading the news: owner needed for Toast Of Newyork
Toast Of Newyork, the greyhound named after Michael Buckley's UAE Derby winner and owned by him in partnership with trainer Jamie Osborne, has followed his namesake into retirement.
He is currently listed as the Greyhound Trust's 'dog of the week', and seeking a new home in an advert in the Racing Post.
"Terry Dartnall sold him to us on the night after 'Toast' had won the UAE Derby because he said he had a white puppy with a black face so he looked like Michael's colours," Osborne recalled on Sunday.
"He won us a few races and I was there one night when he won at Towcester. He was a lot of fun."
The male greyhound, who was born in March 2013 and is nicknamed 'Toasty', has been retired due to injury.
"He's had lots of little issues and he's a had a few comebacks but sadly this is one injury too far," explained Osborne.
Toast Of Newyork is said by the trust to have a loving nature, although trainers with a stable cat beware – he is deemed an unsuitable companion for cats!
