Leopardstown on Wednesday announced that Stan James are to sponsor the prestigious Irish Gold Cup for the first time.

The Grade 1 has been without a backer since Hennessy severed a long-standing tie with the Foxrock track following the 2015 running, meaning last season's race, won by Carlingford Lough, was run without a sponsor.

Stan James, who sponsored the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown last season, are the most recent non-authorised betting partner – along with Coral – to enter the Irish market as race sponsors.
