Stable staff chief calls on racing to address 'too intense' work-life imbalance

British racing should not rest on its laurels and should start addressing its issues with employment and recruitment, National Association of Racing Staff chief executive, George McGrath, warned on Wednesday.

McGrath was responding to Richard Hughes's claim in the Racing Post that a staffing crisis has left yards at breaking point. The trainer made a plea for racing to put more pressure on the UK government to relax restrictions on foreign workers in a bid to ease the strain.

McGrath had sympathy with Hughes's argument but believes there would not be such an issue recruiting and retaining staff if they were offered a better work-life balance.
