Sisters of Churchill and Winter make their debut in same race
Wherever you are planning to watch racing from the Curragh on Saturday, be it live, down the betting shop or in your armchair, do not be late! Because among the juveniles in the opening 6f fillies' maiden at 1.50pm are, remarkably, sisters to both of this year's Newmarket Guineas winners.
Clemmie, little sister of Churchill and named after Sir Winston Churchill’s wife, who died in 1977, is the mount of Ryan Moore, while Donnacha O’Brien partners Snowflakes.
Both fillies are by supersire Galileo. Clemmie's dam is Meow and Snowflakes is out of Laddies Poker Two.
Their trainer Aidan O’Brien said on Friday: “Both of them are ready to start. Clemmie is a lovely filly and has been working very nicely, while Snowflakes too has been pleasing us.
"They are two smashers and we’re looking forward to getting them started."
O'Brien, who saddles Churchill later on the same card and Winter on Sunday, added: “The fillies will appreciate going further later on but we’re hoping they go well.”
O’Brien won the same maiden with subsequent Albany Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes winner Brave Anna a year ago.
