Sire De Grugy among five former racehorses to parade at Newbury
Former Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Sire De Grugy is among five former racehorses to parade at Newbury on Saturday before the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase.
The 12-year-old, for whom this is a first Retraining of Racehorses parade, was a double winner of the Tingle Creek and gave trainer Gary Moore his biggest success in the 2014 Champion Chase. He retired from racing in December last year and spent time at the RoR's flagship yard in Newmarket.
The parade, which starts at 1pm, will include 2011 Hennessey Gold Cup winner Carruthers, who enjoys a varied life in retirement, as well as Annacotty and former Grade 1 winners Zarkandar and Melodic Rendezvous.
Di Arbuthnot, chief executive of RoR, said: "We are very grateful to the Peter O'Sullevan Trust for their ongoing support of the charity and in particular their sponsorship of our racecourse parades.
"Sir Peter was a fervent supporter of horse welfare and he would no doubt have enjoyed seeing these former stars of the track parade for the public at Newbury on Saturday."
Harriet Collins, head of communications at Newbury said: "The work of the RoR is so important and it's a real treat for our racegoers to be able to see them being ridden and enjoying life after their racing careers are over."
