Seldom Is Precious wins poll to name O'Brien filly
Joseph O'Brien asked Twitter for help naming a filly by Presenting out of Rare Gesture and the votes were narrowly in favour of Seldom Is Precious.
After being bombarded by more than 3,000 suggestions, O'Brien settled on a choice of four for his four-year-old bay and ran a poll on his Twitter feed to decide.
It was a close run thing as Seldom Is Precious edged home by just one per cent from Galveston Girl.
Following 9,224 votes in 24 hours, the final standings were Seldom Is Precious 27%, Galveston Girl 26%, A Lady Like You 24% and I'll Be Me 23%.
The winning name, suggested by Timmy Birchall (@tbirchall), was one that O'Brien "really liked" with the others Glen Campbell songs and lyrics.
O'Brien tweeted: "Thanks again to everyone that got involved and turned this into something way bigger that we thought it would be. Hopefully she’s lucky!
"Big congrats and thanks to @tbirchall who suggested the winning name. You’re welcome to call in and meet her if you are ever around this neck of the woods."
It is not the first time Twitter has been responsible for the naming of a racehorse as last year a three-year-old based in Australia was called Horsey McHorseface.
The tongue-in-cheek moniker was a tribute to the infamous RRS Boaty McBoatface episode when the Natural Environment Research Council asked for the public's help in naming their new polar research ship in 2016.
