What to bet on: a guide to Saturday's punting options

With Britain drawing a blank on Saturday in terms of racing, Naas picks up the slack as the only domestic meeting for punters to focus on. However, it is a Saturday and there is a gluttony of alternative sporting action for punters to sink their teeth into.

Saturday on the riviera

Located only 13km from Nice, it is set to be a balmy afternoon on the Polytrack at Cagnes-Sur-Mer, as the French course hosts a valuable eight-race card headlined by two races both offering prize money of over £20,000.

The 7½f Prix de Vichy (12.45) is a three-year-old contest and will feature representatives from some of France's most-established yards.

The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Etoile will hope to step up on her debut victory over course and distance last month but will face stern opposition from Kanuka, trained by Jerome Reynier, who brings Group 3 form into the contest.

Later the Prix Cirrus des Aigles (2.32), named in honour of the legendary three-time Prix Ganay winner, is a six furlong contest in which Long Island and Zalamea set the standard on form. The former was a two-length fifth in a Deauville Group 3 two starts ago, while Zalamea ran at Group level six times last summer.

International offering

Those willing to brave the oncoming Storm Erik and head down to their local betting shops can enjoy a veritable feast of global racing action, including:

Hipodromo (Chile)
Turffontein (South Africa)
Kenilworth (South Africa)
Philadelphia (US)
Gulfstream (US)
Tampa Bay Downs (US)
Laurel Park (US)
Aqueduct (US)

Day at the dogs

Crayford (12 races) and Sheffield (16) will provide a bumper night of greyhound action on Racing Post Greyhound TV on Saturday night, with six first round heats of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket at the first-named venue to look forward to.

The 714m Category One competition is always keenly contested and among the entries this year are two Irish-trained aces in the shape of Brendan Matthews' proven stayer Towcester Story (heat six, 10.02pm) and Dolores Ruth's relative novice Boylesportstwink (heat five, 9.45).

Bankers in terms of punting look to be Derek Knight's defending champion Shotgun Bullet in heat three (8.51), plus Mark Wallis's ante-post favourite Brigadier Bullet who can land the spoils in a red-hot fourth heat (9.27).

Time for rugby

The second round of the Six Nations begins with a mouthwatering clash between Scotland and Ireland at Murrayfield (BBC1, 2.15).

The hosts will be looking to follow up their convincing opening weekend victory over Italy, while Ireland need to bounce back after being humbled by England in Dublin on Saturday.

Later, a resurgent Wales will look to maintain the momentum generated by their dramatic victory in Paris against an Italian team who have not won a Six Nations match since February 2015 (ITV1, 4.45).

Televised football

As always Saturday offers plenty of punting options for football fans.

Fulham and Manchester United clash in the Premier League's early kickoff (Sky Sports Main Event, 12.30) while Brighton & Hove Albion host a Burnley side who after three consecutive draws now languish dangerously close to the bottom three (BT Sport 1, 5.30).

Championship action features a clash between Stoke and West Brom (Sky Sports Football, 5.30) and an unusually inconsistent Bayern Munich side meet Schalke in the Bundesliga (BT Sport 3, 5.30).

Head over to Racing Post Sport for expert advice on all these games and more.

End of the calypso nightmare?

England will look to end their disastrous tour of the West Indies on a high when the two sides meet for the third and final Test of the series in St Lucia (Sky Sports Cricket, 2.00).

The visitors have failed to make 300 collectively in a single innings in the previous two Test matches and keen punters may look to cash in on their misery continuing against a resurgent West Indian side.

Yet there's more…

Day three of the Pebble Beach Pro/Am gets under way in Florida in the evening, and there is GAA football action as Kerry meet Dublin and Mayo clash with Cavan.
