Punters backing Frankie Dettori's mounts in multiples will be able to take a price on all of his rides at Newmarket after Ladbrokes Coral amended their policy in light of a non-runner.

Ladbrokes Coral had stated customers placing five and six-folds on Dettori's rides would only be offered starting price on his final mount, Hareeq.

However, the withdrawal of Honest Albert – favourite for the mile handicap (2.20) – has led to the restriction being lifted.

On Friday customers placing a five or six-fold on Frankie's six mounts with Ladbrokes Coral were able to take the starting price only on the last two legs. The same policy was applied on Coral-Eclipse day, when man-of-the-moment Dettori – whose Ascot four-timer had sent shockwaves through the industry – rode a treble.

When contacted on Friday, Betfred, Betway, Paddy Power, Sky Bet and William Hill said there were no planned restrictions, though Paddy Power and Sky Bet issued the caveat that they would be monitoring liabilities.

Betfred supremo Fred Done continues to stand the Dettori multiples.

Spokesperson Matt Hulmes said on Friday: "Fred's view is that we've got to take them, they're a betting shop bet. It was an incredible day when Frankie had seven winners at Ascot 1996 but to be fair, how many years has he got left?

"We got scared at Ascot but there have been 23 years of multiples on Dettori since then and the industry has made millions."

What has complicated matters for many firms with a sizeable part of their business online is the advent of cash out on multiples, with the payouts for punters increasing significantly once firms start to shorten.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said the firm has not felt compelled to take evasive action yet but that the King George meeting at Ascot at the end of the month could prove a turning point for the industry.

"It's business as usual this Saturday," said Adams on Friday. "I think we’ll have bigger liabilities this week than at Sandown but it is really the connection with Ascot that kills you. The liabilities at Royal Ascot on Friday and Saturday were getting into the hundreds of millions.

"That is a dangerous gamble to take and we are bookmakers, not gamblers. I totally understand the position of quite a few of our competitors but as it stands, while the liabilities tomorrow will be significant, they won’t be at that Ascot level."
