Can Ultra Violet make the step up?

Ultra Violet was an impressive eight-length winner on debut and returns to the July course as she bids to make a successful step up to Group company in the Sweet Solera.

She was not regarded as a flashy worker before her impressive maiden win, but Ultra Violet has since translated that sort of form to her homework and trainer Ed Vaughan is looking forward to seeing how she acquits herself.

He said: "I was very pleased with her work at the weekend. She was never a great work filly before she ran – and even after – but she worked very well on Saturday.

"She's improved a bit. There's plenty of unexposed horses in there but she's entitled to come on plenty."

Will Light Blush give Appleby a first win in race?

Charlie Appleby has had the runner-up of this race twice in the last three years, including last season when subsequent Grade 1 winner La Pelosa was denied by Main Edition.

Appleby this time relies on Light Blush, who won over course and distance on debut last month and then finished runner-up in the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown.

This is another step up the ladder for Light Blush but Appleby is confident his representative can make an impact.

He said: "We were pleased with the performance of Light Blush at Sandown, when she ran well at Listed level, and she came out of the race in good order.

"She won over the course and distance on her debut and we are confident that she should be there or thereabouts."

Can Johnston strike again?

Last year's winner Main Edition is trained by Mark Johnston, who also struck in 2014 with Muraaqaba.

West End Girl is the yard's contender this time and is closely matched with Light Blush, having finished a length and a half behind her in the Star Stakes.

That run could be upgraded as she was short of room in the closing stages, in turn squeezing up Romsey, who finished fourth and reopposes.

What they say

Jack Channon, assistant to Mick Channon, trainer of Dalanijujo
We've always liked her and she won nicely at Doncaster. She's got a lot to find but could only beat what was in front of her, and we're hopeful she's up to this class.

Richard Hannon, trainer of Dark Lady
She ran well at Ascot last time and Ryan [Moore] said going up to seven furlongs would suit. She has plenty of experience and could improve again for the longer trip.

Richard Fahey, trainer of Diamond Sparkles
We like her a lot. She does need to improve but there should be more to come.

Hughie Morrison, trainer of Romsey
I think she's improved since Sandown. We had a slightly interrupted preparation and I hope she might improve another length or two, but she might need a bit further.
