Expert eyecatchers: interesting runners identified by Racing Post analysts
Racing Post analysts select an eyecatcher after every meeting and here we highlight a selection of Saturday runners who have been put up as horses to watch.
Had numerous gaps closed on him at crucial stages in the 1m5f maiden
A Dermot Weld-trained three-year-old who improved markedly on previous form when an unlucky runner-up on his first start over a mile and five furlongs at Navan earlier this month. Gaps failed to appear at the key moment on that occasion but it was a performance of real promise and a bold bid to break his maiden is likely.
Historic
4.05 York
Made a pleasing debut and this late foal should improve quite a bit next time.
Promising debut at Yarmouth last month looks the best piece of form on offer from the raced juveniles in this maiden. The son of Shamardal should handle the soft ground and looks the most likely winner barring an excellent display from one of six unraced horses in the field.
Mr Bolt
5.25 Downpatrick
Finished off well on his first run after a huge absence and should be watched next time.
A 14-year-old who performed admirably on his return from a 909-day break when third in a 2m7½f handicap chase behind two solid rivals over this course at the end of last month. He stayed on well that day and so it is a slight surprise to see connections drop in trip to 2m3f, but he will likely come on for his reappearance as he goes in search of a first win under rules.
