Ascot aces: three horses who will relish testing conditions

The going at Ascot has been changed to soft from good, good to firm in places after persistent rain on Saturday. Here are three horses who will relish the testing conditions.

Blakeney Point (2.25)

Roger Charlton's five-year-old is at his best over 1m4f on testing ground and relished the conditions when scoring at Listed level on soft going at Chester last time. His last two wins have now come with plenty of cut in the ground and he appears to need it on the soft side.

That recent win proved he is worth another chance in Group company and the easing conditions should bring his stamina into play against his younger rivals.

Red Starlight (4.10)

Is by a sire in Pivotal whose progeny have a good record on ground described as soft or heavy.

Red Starlight won a novice event on soft ground at Newbury last October and should enjoy the return to an easier surface following a good third on quicker going at Sandown last time.

Alaadel (4.45)

Yet to run on anything quicker than good to soft and relishes plenty of cut in the ground. Conditions couldn't be more suitable.

Stuart Willams' runner was an unlucky-in-running seventh on heavy ground in the Ayr Bronze Cup last time and might have gone close with a clear run.

Connections opt for the combination of visor and tongue tie for the first time and he stays further than this 5f trip. His stamina could prove decisive on this going.
