Kingman colt Calyx enters Coventry picture after impressive debut success
Kingman's first two runners failed to hit the target but Calyx did the job in grand style in the first novice stakes run on Newmarket's July course, earning quotes for the Coventry Stakes in the process.
Despite a high head carriage and looking green in the closing stages, Calyx stretched right away from Lingfield winner Octave, the only horse with previous experience.
Paddy Power now make him a 10-1 shot for the Coventry on Tuesday week, while bet365 were even more impressed and put him in their betting at 4-1.
Calyx travelled best throughout and put the race to bed with ease in a similar style to his father, winning by five lengths.
The colt is out of Helleborine, a Group 3 winner who finished second in the Prix Marcel Boussac.
"We'll have to see how Calyx is before we think about Royal Ascot or anything," said Gosden. "He's a nice type of horse who will get seven furlongs and a mile like his father."
Gosden sent out Shalaa, who took the July Stakes and Richmond Stakes on the way to Prix Morny glory, to win the same race in 2015.
