Yibir became the joint-fifth shortest-priced loser of a British or Irish Group race this century when he was beaten at Newmarket on Friday at odds of 1-4. Below, we look at five short-priced favourites who failed to deliver on the Flat.

Order Of St George (1-7F)

The shortest-priced Group 1 loser in Britain or Ireland this century is Order Of St George, who was sent off the 1-7 favourite for the 2016 Irish St Leger but could only manage second behind Wicklow Brave.

It was a minor blip in an otherwise exemplary career and Order Of St George redeemed himself when justifying 2-5 favouritism in the same race the following season for Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien.

Calyx (2-13F)

Calyx was the last horse beaten at a shorter price than Yibir in such a high-level race in Britain when losing the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock for John Gosden and Robert Havlin at odds of 2-13.

The son of Kingman arrived with a big reputation after winning the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes at Ascot in May, but he failed to fire later that month when three and a quarter lengths behind Hello Youmzain.

Royal Navy Ship (1-6F)

When you train as many good horses as Aidan O'Brien you are going to have more turned over at shorter odds than most, and Royal Navy Ship was another in the 2014 Killavullan Stakes.

A Curragh maiden winner just 13 days previous, Royal Navy Ship was sent off at 1-6 for the four-runner Group 3 over 7f, but Jim Bolger's Steip Amach ran out a three-quarter-length winner.

Royal Navy Ship raced four more times for O'Brien without winning before being sold.

Taghrooda (1-5F)

Taghrooda became the shortest-priced Group 1 loser this century when finishing second in the 2014 Yorkshire Oaks at odds of 1-5.

After winning the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July, the unbeaten Taghrooda was considered a certainty at York the following month, but she could not get the better of Tapestry.

She was a beaten favourite on her next start, too, finishing third behind Treve and Flintshire in the 2014 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Yibir (1-4F)

Yibir, who was narrowly denied in the Sheema Classic in March, was sent off at 1-4 for the all-conquering combination of William Buick and Charlie Appleby in the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes.

His trainer expressed some reservations before the race about how the odds-on favourite would perform, and he found little in the finish, beaten a length and three-quarters by Living Legend.

John F Kennedy (1-4F)

The final Aidan O'Brien-trained entry on the list. As a juvenile, John F Kennedy was second on debut in July 2014 before winning his maiden at the second time of asking at the Curragh in August. His season finished with a three-and-a-quarter-length success in the Group 3 Juvenile Turf Stakes at Leopardstown.

It all meant he made his seasonal reappearance at three as a 1-4 shot for the three-runner Ballysax Stakes back at Leopardstown in the April of his Classic campaign, but he finished last - some ten and a half lengths adrift of the winner Success Days. A last of seven in Golden Horn's Dante followed before his final race in the Group 3 Enterprise Stakes when he was third behind Fascinating Rock.

Vacamonte (1-4F)

You have to go back to the turn of the century for Vacamonte, who was drubbed when sent off the 1-4 favourite for the 2000 running of the Solario Stakes.

The Sir Henry Cecil-trained and Khalid Abdullah-owned juvenile was an impressive three-and-a-half-length winner of the Listed Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on debut, but he came unstuck at Sandown and was only seen once more when finishing sixth of ten in Tobougg's Dewhurst.
