Ben Curtis hopes to be back in the thick of the action soon despite nursing a broken thumb after being unseated from the William Haggas-trained In The City at Thirsk on Saturday.

Initially it was feared the 27-year-old had broken his arm but further examination at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough revealed a dislocated and broken right thumb.

"It could have been a lot worse," said the rider, who remained in hospital on Sunday.
