'You're just trying to ride the wave' - Larson ecstatic as winning run continues
Monday: Thirsk
Freddie Larson notched the biggest success of his career aboard Chipstead in the Portland on Sunday and continued his great season with victory on Fen Tiger in the 1m4f apprentice handicap.
The four-year-old doubled his tally in gutsy fashion, with Larson pulling out all the stops aboard his mount to get back up in the final strides after being headed.
"He's battled back and gone away again at the line," Larson said. "He's not ungenuine, he just wants something to aim at and doesn't want to be left alone.
"He's a good couple of grades better than that, he's been crying out for softer ground. He's never really got it and when he steps up in trip on softer ground, he's probably got a bit in hand."
Larson sits on the 30-winner mark for the season and credits much of his success to Mick Appleby, who is giving him the confidence to thrive.
"Mick chucks me on 70 per cent of everything that leaves the yard and you only learn when you're out there – it's all due to him as to why I've improved so quickly," Larson added.
"You always dream about it going as well as this and when it's happening you're just trying to ride the wave the best you can."
Keeping rolling
Fresh from Sunday's victory aboard Highfield Princess in the Flying Five at the Curragh, Jason Hart continued his fine form with victory aboard The Twilight Lady in the 6f nursery.
He was agonisingly denied a double, however, when In These Shoes lost out by a head in the 7f novice to promising debut winner Royal Rhyme.
