'You haven't seen him at his best' - Crimson Spirit follows up Salisbury win with hard-fought victory under Richard Kingscote

Crimson Spirit may have won the 7f handicap but his rider Richard Kingscote is adamant the four-year-old is capable of better.

The Daniel and Claire Kubler-trained gelding fought off Revolutionise by a neck to back up a comfortable Salisbury win under Friday's Commonwealth Cup-winning rider, who felt his mount did not really handle the challenging conditions.

"You haven't seen him at his best there," Kingscote told Sky Sports Racing. "The track is difficult and it's very windy. He went to go and win his race and then he got blown around a bit and got unbalanced, and the second horse just lunged at him. I thought he did well in difficult circumstances.

"It's quick ground and we didn't go overly quick. If someone gets an easy lead it makes life difficult, but it was more 'job done' than seeing what he could do."

Crimson Spirit, who was purchased for just 2,000gns in December, could bid for a hat-trick in a 7f handicap at Doncaster on Saturday. 

Kingscote completed a double aboard Alice's Impact in the mile handicap for David Evans. The result was one of three significant upsets on the card, with victory over 11-10 market leader Banksman by a length and a quarter a poor result for favourite backers. 

In the previous race, the 4-5 favourite Kinswoman was beaten by Musical Angel, while 5-4 favourite Sea Charm was denied by Miss Dandylion later on the card in the 1m2f handicap. For good measure, the final favourite of the day Throne Hall was beaten by Cloudy Rose in the 1m4f amateur jockeys' handicap.
