Wetherby's richest ever Flat race may have left Yorkshire but at least it went to a Yorkshireman.

Newmarket-based William Haggas is always alert to opportunities in his native county and his Original Choice landed the £40,000 totesport.com Hunt Cup, the feature event on a card switched from Thirsk due to the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race.

The 6-1 shot hit the front plenty soon enough under Ben Curtis but had enough in reserve to hold on by a neck from Hayadh – trained just across town by Rebecca Bastiman.
