'Words can't describe it, I'm buzzing, I’m on cloud nine' - Zoe McMullan lands first winner on 50-1 shot Kartayaz

Zoe McMullan: rode her first ever winner at Dundalk on Wednesday

Zoe McMullan was left "on cloud nine" after she enjoyed a day to remember at Dundalk with her first winner aboard 50-1 shot Kartayaz

On just her eighth ride, she partnered the George Kingston-trained eight-year-old in division one of the 1m2½f handicap. She sat in behind the leaders and was well positioned turning for home to come through a gap and beat Boyne Valley by half a length.

"Words can't describe it, I'm buzzing, I'm on cloud nine," said McMullan. "He jumped out of the stalls and they were flying along, but I got tucked away where I wanted to be.

"Swinging in he felt like he was going to win and I thought, 'no way'. He kept passing horses and battled all the way to the line for me. He was brilliant, it was all him.

"You can't describe the feeling hitting the line, it's a dream come true. I know him well at home. He ran at Laytown over six furlongs, which doesn't suit him, but he loves the beach and it sharpened him up.”

Now based full-time with Kingston, McMullan told Racing TV: "I broke my leg last year when I was with Jimmy Sloan, but I was still going racing. I was at Down Royal and George was there on his own in the stable next to us and needed someone to hold a horse.

"He said, 'I know you've got your bad leg but he's quiet if you can hold him.' Then he told me if I was ever quiet to come in and ride work, so I gave him a shout and that's how it started."
