Eddie Lynam stole the show with a 142-1 treble as summer made a brief appearance. It was highlighted by the narrow victory of the Luke McMahon-owned Whiskey Sour in the feature mile handicap.

Pat Smullen had to sit and suffer while waiting for a gap to open on the son of Jeremy, but it proved beneficial as he got up on the line to touch off favourite Tony The Gent by a short head, with the trainer left unsure whether his charge had won.

He said: "I thought he got up on the line but I was reliably informed that he didn't! I wouldn't have given you great confidence before the race, I thought he had plenty of weight against good horses but he was tough.
