'When the gap opened she soon put it to bed' - Money Pockets sprouts wings to give owner first Flat winner

Money Pockets showed an impressive turn of foot to land the 5f handicap and give her owner his first winner on the Flat.

The three-year-old settled in last in the early stages but wasted no time when a gap opened at the three-furlong mark, powering through the field to win by three and a quarter lengths under Oisin Orr. 

Trained by Martin Dunne, the filly had finished second by narrow margins on her last three starts, but she finally got off the mark at the ninth attempt for her owner Peter Turner.

"When we were watching it, I thought we were a little further back than I would have liked," Dunne said. "We had a bad draw, but I thought if we could try to get there around mid-division, we'll take that. She relaxed out there and when the gap opened she soon put it to bed.

"Each time she'd been second there had been a valid excuse, but to actually get her head in front in that fashion was great for everyone. The owner has been really patient and supportive and I'm delighted for him. He hasn't had a winner for quite some time, so I'm chuffed for him, and the filly deserved this."

The Julie Camacho-trained May Blossom outran her 11-1 odds in the 6f handicap to end over a year-long dry spell.

The six-year-old mare was hard ridden by David Allan in the final furlong and kept on strongly to deny the favourite Novello Lad's late charge by a neck.
