There was a marriage proposal off the track, while Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden, one of racing's most powerful partnerships, joined forces on it as Tommy Silver provided the trainer with his 100th winner of the season in the Forbra Gold Cup.

Carried out at the course three weeks ago when set to have a major say, Tommy Silver responded to a positive ride by Cobden to gain compensation on his first try over three miles.

"He was desperately unlucky here last time as Harry thought he would have won," said Nicholls' assistant Harry Derham.
