Well-bred Edge Ofthe Unknown makes perfect start to have trainer George Boughey excited about next year
Edge Ofthe Unknown showed he had a fair share of ability to match his breeding when producing a strong late charge to win the mile novice under Billy Loughnane.
It is little surprise the Flaxman Stables juvenile was capable of winning on his debut as he is by Quality Road and out of a Galileo mare and hails from a top Niarchos family. He responded strongly to pressure to pick up the runaway leader White Crown Star before fighting off 3-1 favourite Fort George.
The half-length victory took George Boughey's two-year-old strike-rate at the track to higher than 25 per cent, and the trainer believes Edge Ofthe Unknown is open to plenty of improvement next year.
"He's improved quite a lot recently," he said. "He was still very green through the early stages of the race and he's going to strengthen up with time. He's still very much a frame of an animal.
"He did well to win. His work had been encouraging but like all of ours it wasn't about today. His pedigree lends itself to a three-year-old career and a sound surface is what he needs. We'll look forward to him over the winter."
Cobbler strikes
Jkr Cobbler dug in to fight off Concert Boy by half a length in the 7f handicap, recording back-to-back wins for Andrew Mullen and Iain Jardine. The likeable five-year-old is clearly in rude health and could bid to complete a hat-trick at Southwell next Tuesday in the 7f handicap.
