'Well bought' Fakir scores for Milton Harris and deserving connections
Friday: Fontwell
The In For A Penny Partnership suffered a devastating loss at Stratford earlier this year but will have had their spirits raised by Fakir's victory in the 2m5½f handicap chase.
Previously owned by Gigginstown and making his debut for Milton Harris, Fakir looked held approaching the last but his extra stamina kicked in and he surged past a wilting Up The Straight to land the three-runner contest.
"This looked the ideal starting point," said Harris. "It seemed like he'd lost his way but he's been a pleasure to deal with since we got him. He definitely wants further and probably more cut but he's won nicely."
Achy Breaky Heart was fatally injured on her second start for the owners in May but after being convinced back to the sport by Harris, their £15,000 purchase of the seven-year-old looks a great piece of business.
"They're new owners to the yard, all from North Yorkshire," added Harris. "They bought a mare with us and she was going to win at Stratford but unfortunately fell and was fatally injured.
"That knocked them about a bit and they needed convincing to come back into the sport, but he looks a horse who is well bought."
Soul in rhythm
Soul Icon completed a four-timer with a comfortable victory in the 2m1½f handicap hurdle for Keiran Burke, becoming a third winner from his last four runners for the trainer.
Sheena West also has her stable in excellent form and Mr Freedom defied a double penalty to win the 2m1½f juvenile hurdle, taking his record to 3-4 over hurdles.
