George Scott believes he has a Royal Ascot contender on his hands in Objector, who completed back-to-back victories at the track in the 1m½f novice stakes.

Sent off 7-1 when leaving a subsequent winner in his wake in December, the son of Dark Angel was chalked up at 1-9 to follow up under Darragh Keenan and easily pulled 11 lengths clear of Al Bowlly.

Scott said: "He's a lovely horse who has been a pleasure to deal with and he now qualifies for a handicap mark, so we'll be working back from one of the handicaps at Royal Ascot.

"Obviously he has to run twice more before then but we wanted to see him pushed out to the line today to get a mark and we'll reflect on what he has achieved."

Magic for Middleham

Middleham Park Racing had a double, initiated when Eupator scored at the 12th attempt in the 1m½f handicap.

The Richard Hannon-trained four-year-old – who may return to the track on Monday – made all to complete a double for Sean Levey, who won the opener on Mr Nugget for David Simcock.

Middleham Park's Tim Palin said: "We've been trying to work out Eupator's best trip and we're delighted he's finally got his head in front. We think a mile and a quarter is his best distance but we tolerated today's shorter trip as he was 2lb well in."

He added: "It was a quick turnaround from Lingfield at the weekend but he's bounced out of that and if he pulls out well in the morning he'll be back to take up his engagement on Monday.

"He'll be off 76 with his penalty then but he'll go up more than that I'm sure for winning by five lengths, so hopefully he can go in again."

Cardinal Point completed the Middleham Park double in the closing 1m4f handicap under Hector Crouch.
