'We took our chance' - Pauling relieved as Shakem Up'Arry wins on reappearance
Friday: Exeter
Trainer Ben Pauling's patience was rewarded when Shakem Up'Arry won on his reappearance in the 2m3f handicap chase.
Owned by Harry Redknapp, the eight-year-old was making his first start since finishing third in a Grade 3 handicap chase at Aintree in April and came home in good style under Luca Morgan.
Pauling, who is operating at a terrific 29 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight, said: "I was pleased to see him get a run. We had him lined up for the Paddy Power, but the ground was too quick and we've been desperately trying to find a race for him most weeks.
"We took our chance on ground which, based on his history, was on the lively side for him, but he did it nicely and jumped well. It's a good starting point for the remainder of the season."
He added: "I'll see how he comes out of the race but we'll see if there's something for him over Christmas and I'll talk to Harry to see what we can do with him."
Future's bright
Paul Nicholls is planning to step up Gelino Bello in grade after his defeat of City Chief in the two-runner 3m novice chase.
The six-year-old, who ended last season with Grade 1 success in a 3m½f novice hurdle at Aintree, has now made it two wins from two this campaign.
Nicholls said: "We'll step him up in grade and he's a possibility for the Kauto Star [at Kempton on Boxing Day], but I'm not sure I'd want him and McFabulous to take each other on yet.
"It's frustrating as he's beaten two horses in two runs but he's gaining experience."
Nicholls landed a double to add to his two winners at Sandown when €90,000 purchase Inthewaterside took the 2m½f bumper despite signs of greenness on his racecourse debut.
