'We need to try to get a Group 1' - Dancing Gemini takes another step forward with emphatic success

Dancing Gemini confirmed his status as one of Britain's most exciting milers with an emphatic success in the bet365 Mile under Rossa Ryan.
The four-year-old emulated one of last season's stars Charyn by following up his Doncaster Mile victory at Sandown, finishing a length and three-quarters clear of Tamfana. Like Charyn, Dancing Gemini was winless at three but ran well, including when second in the French 2,000 Guineas.
He was cut to 5-2 (from 7s) by Paddy Power for the Boylesports Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 17 but also has the option of the Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp the following week.
"I always thought he was capable of this, which is why I was pitching him in all those Group races last year," said trainer Roger Teal, who could be seen punching the air by the winning post as his stable star crossed the line. "Unfortunately we had such a wet summer so we never had a chance.
"I know a lot of those horses will improve for today but I'm just delighted to see him win like that. He nailed it. We need to try to get him a Group 1. I'd love to go for the Lockinge, but the Prix d'Ispahan remains an option. Nothing has been decided and we'll just do what's best for him."
Teal, who won two Group 1s with Oxted, trains just short of 40 horses, and added: "We're a little bit down on numbers from last year after a few horses retired and I don't have the owners to replace them. It's hard to attract new owners but hopefully this gives us a little bit of credit."
Ryan doubled up when 11-4 shot Tattycoram earned a wildcard entry for next month's Betfred Oaks with victory in the fillies' novice contest. Her trainer Ralph Beckett secured a double of his own when Sing Us A Song won the 1m2f handicap.
Swagman off the mark
Swagman added his name to an illustrious roll of honour alongside the likes of Shergar when landing the bet365 Classic Trial for Aidan O'Brien.

The son of Wootton Bassett, who is entered in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but not the Betfred Derby, beat the Andrew Balding-trained favourite Windlord by three-quarters of a length. It was his first start since July, when he was beaten a length and a half in a Leopardstown Group 3.
"He only had three runs last year but his last one was very good behind Hotazhell in the Tyros Stakes," said Moore. "He's been off a long time but has done well from two to three. When I got on him in the paddock it felt like he'd strengthened up.
"They went a good even pace and he was a bit green in places, but once he started coming off the bend he travelled nicely and showed a good attitude. He was always getting there and doing what he had to do. He's a lightly raced horse so hopefully he'll continue to improve."
Al Aasy back for more
Al Aasy struck late under Jim Crowley to secure a remarkable seventh Group 3 success in the Gordon Richards Stakes for William Haggas.

The evergreen eight-year-old, who did not finish outside the first three last season, got his campaign off to a flyer when beating Ancient Wisdom.
"He's been a revelation the last few years," said Crowley. "William said he was in great form coming here. We always felt he had enough toe to come back in trip. William said he was worried he would be a bit fresh, but it set up nicely for him today and played into his hands perfectly."
